Nissan Navara Pro 2X merges style with function

Prashirwin Naidu

The Nissan Navara has long been a topic of conversation among pickup enthusiasts, begging the question: is it merely a stylish contender in the pickup market, or does it stand out for its performance as well? This comprehensive review dives into the details to uncover what the latest Navara model brings.

The Navara makes a bold statement with its black front grille and body-coloured bumper, designed to catch the eye from the get-go. It doesn't just stop at aesthetics; functionality is a crucial aspect. Features like the front towing hook, LED headlights equipped with an automatic "Follow Me Home" function, fog lights, and daytime running lights, ensuring visibility and safety are top priorities.

The Navara showcases its rugged elegance from the side with 17" black alloy wheels wrapped in 255/65 R17 tyres, complemented by side steps, over-fender, and black roof rails. The power-adjustable, auto-folding black door mirrors, chrome door handles, and front and rear mudflaps add to its practical yet polished appearance.

Powering the Navara is a 2.5l four-cylinder diesel engine with a single turbo, delivering a robust 140Kw and 450Nm of torque, coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency is a mixed bag, with actual consumption reported at 10.7l/100km against a claimed 7.6l/100km, placing it in direct competition with industry giants like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, VW Amarok, and Isuzu D-Max.

The Navara proves its mettle with a 3500kg towing capacity, a rear step bumper, and a 12V outlet within the load box, underscoring its utility and versatility.

Inside, the Navara doesn't skimp on luxury or technology. The cabin is adorned with graphite trim and black leather, featuring advanced safety technologies such as Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The 8" touch-screen display, navigation, and an Intelligent Around View Monitor are just the tip of the iceberg. Comfort and convenience are further enhanced by a plethora of amenities, including an electrically adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and intelligent keyless entry, to name a few.

Safety is paramount in the Navara, equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a comprehensive anti-theft system, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, and several intelligent driving aids designed to prevent accidents and protect passengers.

Behind the wheel, the Navara offers a decent driving experience. While it boasts a sturdy suspension system, some may find it lacking in power. The overall performance is solid but only sometimes sets it apart in a crowded market.

Nissan backs the Navara with a 6-year / 90,000 km service plan and a 6-year / 150,000 km warranty, providing potential buyers peace of mind and assurance.

The Nissan Navara is undeniably a competent and stylish pickup, with many features designed for performance and comfort. However, in a segment filled with stiff competition, it holds its own but doesn't necessarily eclipse its rivals. The Navara is a worthy option for a reliable, well-equipped pickup for those in the market, though it may not be the best in its class.
