Lamborghini SCV12

Lamborghini SCV12

Listen to the track-only Lamborghini’s 630kw V12 scream as it rips around Imola

You’re listening to the sweet sound of the most powerful naturally-aspirated V12 ever built by Lamborghini. It is of course the Italian marques latest track-only hypercar, and they just unleashed the soon-to-be-unveiled machine on the Imola race track in Italy.

The car was designed by Squadra Corse – Lamborghini’s racing division – and boasts enough trick aerodynamics to give it more downforce than a proper GT3 race car. Key elements resulting in such impressive levels of downforce include a long hood, prominent splitters up front, vertical fins on the side sills, a central rib that directs airflow into the air intake scoop on the roof, a monster diffuser, and a gigantic LMGTE Pro-like rear wing.

The SCV12 is essentially a driver’s seat strapped to a very big engine. An engine that is a modified version of the 6.5-litre V12 that powers the Aventador, and is paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox derived from the one fitted on the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO, affixed to a bespoke Squadra Corse chassis made of carbon-fibre.

The best part is, unlike the Aventador, the SCV12 sends all of its power exclusively to the rear wheels. Even though they are 20-inch magnesium alloy wheels shod with Pirelli racing slicks, you can still hear them scrambling for grip in the low-speed corners around Imola. Fortunately, the push-rod suspension does its bit to keep the Lambo pointing in the right direction. Pay special attention to the braking capabilities of the SCV12 by watching the deceleration on its steering wheel.

Behind the wheel of the SCV12 was 5-time Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro, who will be giving SCV12 owners tutorage – on the some of the greatest racetracks around the world - on how to extract the maximum out of their hypercar. Lamborghini is expected to announce the price tag, and unveil the SCV12 in the coming weeks.
