Meet the Toyota Vitz, a budget-friendly compact city car

Murali Naidu

The Toyota Vitz Is an affordable entryway into the Toyota brand, and most consumers are looking for something that won't put a dent in their wallet; this might be a compelling choice.

Following the Aygo and Agya, the Vitz emerged from the Toyota-Suzuki alliance. It elevates Toyota's small car range by blending style with valuable features like a roomy cabin, safety, and affordability.

Design-wise, the Vitz impresses with its sleek lines, distinctive headlights, and vibrant colours. The XR models add flair with features like front fog lamps and glossy alloys.

Diamond comes in small packages, and the compact Vitz yields ample boot space, offering 295 litres and convenient features like a 60/40 split rear seat. The cabin design includes a unique instrument panel, carbon fibre-like inserts, and chrome accents.

Some features that came with our Toyota Vitz 1.0 XR 5MT include central locking, air conditioning, steering wheel controls for telephony and audio functions, electric mirrors/windows, 15-inch alloys, rear window wiper, front fog lights and colour-coded side mirrors and door handles.

It also boasts a four-speaker sound system integrated into the touchscreen infotainment system, offering Bluetooth and USB functionality. It also supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto, allowing users to connect their smart devices and access apps like Maps and Spotify.

The Vitz is also a front-runner in safety, with a robust chassis, ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill-Assist Control. It also features two airbags, ISOFIX systems, and parking sensors.

Under the hood, the Vitz is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine, delivering 49kW of power and 89Nm of torque, accessible from just 3500 revs.

The engine is zippy enough. The optional Automated Manual Transmission provides the convenience of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual.

The Vitz feels exceptionally lightweight and graceful in handling, and its fuel efficiency is pretty good. Claimed consumption is 4.4l per 100km.
