The latest Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+ lands in SA 

Ever wondered what a luxury seven-seater SUV that can rocket you from zero to 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds, would look like? Well, introducing the all-new Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+. Dubbed the S-Class of its segment, the latest AMG GLS 63 exudes class and performance.  

At the heart of this tanks is a monstrous AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that comes equipped with an integrated EQ Boost starter-alternator. It will produce a very impressive 450 kW of power and 850 Nm of torque. The integrated EQ Boost starter-alternator will also provide an additional 16kW of output and 250 Nm of torque at brief moments, making quick sprints even faster. The GLS 63 will get paired with Mercedes-AMG forever smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. It also comes outfitted with a high-performance braking system that provides effective stopping power and short braking distances, even with heavier loads.  

Outside, its evident that the GLS 63 is not here to play games. Its exterior comes featured with an AMG-specific radiator grille with vertical louvres in high-gloss chrome which is much larger than the other AMG models. In terms of wheels, the GLS 63 will ride on 21-inch 10-spoke light-alloy wheels come in tantalite grey as standard. Six other wheel variants ranging up to 23 inches are available too. 

The latest GLS 63 has gotten a much longer wheelbase than its predecessor, resulting in an increase of space for passengers in the second seat row. As for the cabin, the GLS remains as spacious and luxurious as expected. The inside boasts its typical AMG features such as AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs, illuminated door sill panels, and black floor mats with AMG lettering. The seats will come standard in black AMG Nappa leather and will come with a choice of seven colour and material variants, Of course, to complete the look drivers can look forward to a 3-spoke AMG steering wheel. 

On the technology front, the MBUX infotainment system which includes AMG-specific features will come standard. Drivers will enjoy Mercedes-AMG’s highly advanced widescreen cockpit, instrument display, and high-resolution multimedia touch display. Most of the functions will be activated through the intelligent voice-operated control ‘Hey Mercedes’. 

In terms of safety, the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz driving assistance systems has been further enhanced. As standard, these will include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with route-based speed adjustment, that uses information from LiveTraffic to recognize tailbacks or slow-moving traffic and respond accordingly. The Driving Assistance Package Plus, Active Stop-and-Go Assist will help the driver further by staying in their lane and maintaining a safe following distance up to around 60 km/h.
