The all-new Defender 90 lands in SA

The Defender 90 has finally made its way to South Africa, slowly expanding the Defender family. For those who remember, the Defender 110 made it's grand introduction last year, leaving many impressed with its style and overall durability. Now in 2021, the short wheelbase Defender 90 has landed on our shores and is set to be the most capable Land Rover to ever brace the market. The Defender 90 will consist of four derivatives, ranging from the Defender S, X-Dynamic, First Edition, and the range-topping Defender X.

Starting as the entry-level model will be the Defender S which comes equipped with LED headlights with auto high beam assist, keyless entry, Ebony grained leather with woven textile seat facings and a Pivi Pro 10-inch touchscreen infotainment that offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other Driver assistance features will include Terrain Response, 3D surround cameras, emergency braking, lane keep assist, 360-degree parking aid, wade sensing, and a driver condition monitor. Next in-line will be the X-Dynamic model, which will be the bridge model between the Defender and Defender X. It will come featured with a gloss painted Narvik Black door as well as wheel arch cladding that come with Silicon Satin skid pans. The cabin will feature highly durable Robustec material on the seat ribbons and Console Finisher. The X-Dynamic will come available in SE and HSE Specification Packs.

Sitting on top of the range will be the X derivative. It will be instantly recognizable thanks to its gloss black inset contrast hood and Gloss Black claddings. The front and rear skid pans, and other exterior parts will come coated in a Starlight Satin finish while the brake calipers get painted orange. Inside, the dashboard cross beam will come in a dark grey powder coat brushed finish, while the door sill treadplates get illuminated with the name ‘Defender’. The X model will come with standard features such as a sliding panoramic roof, Matrix LED headlights, 14-way heated and cooled front seats, ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, and a head-up display to name a few.

Lastly, there will be Defender First Edition which will be available for one year from launch. It will come available in Pangea Green, Gondwana Stone, or Hakuba Silver, and will feature a folding fabric sunroof. Other standard features will include 12-way heated seats, an air suspension, an electrically adjustable steering column, a ClearSight rearview mirror, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Much like the Defender 110, the 90 models will come available in four Accessory Packs. They range from the Explorer, Adventure, Country, and Urban Packs, each of which gives the Defender a distinct look and feel.
