Ranger Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport will get special editions, new infotainment, and new engines

Land Rover is taking things up a notch with the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport by adding a new diesel engine, a new Pivi infotainment System as well as some Special Editions.

Range Rover will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the new Range Rover Evoque, which will be added to the Autobiography nameplate. The Evoque Autobiography edition will feature lavish exterior design accents and a luxurious interior. This Special Edition will be available solely in a D200 model and will produce 147kW.

Next, we have the ‘Discovery Sport Black’ which offers customers a sportier experience. At the heart, we have a P290 turbocharged petrol engine that produces 213kW. The Discovery Sport Black will host several changes on both the exterior and interior design.

The D200 will be available as an engine option for both the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport, this will produce an output of 147kW. Customers will also continue to have access to the 183kW P250 as a petrol option.

The interior of both these vehicles will come with Land Rover’s one of a kind Pivi infotainment. This system is fast and ready to use as soon as you take a seat. The software updates are all done over Wi-Fi and can even be scheduled for whatever time suits you. The system is enabled by a new Electrical Vehicle Architecture and comes either as the standard Pivi, or the more advanced Pivi Pro, which is also equipped with built-in navigation, from S-specification.

In terms of safety, the Discovery Sport has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The new Rear Collision Monitor uses a radar to constantly monitor the vehicle’s rear, meaning that the vehicle will always be ready to reduce the seriousness of an impact for the passengers. There is also a 3D Surround Camera that allows the driver to see what is happening around the vehicle at speeds of up to 30km/h.

Those who enjoy music on the road will benefit from Spotify which has been directly integrated within the infotainment menu as well as Bluetooth connectivity for two phones to connect simultaneously. Also made available is wireless device charging with a signal-boosting option.

If this doesn't scream luxury for you, then you are in luck, as one can now check the quality of the air in the cabin via touchscreen by activating the all-new Cabin Air Filtration system which filters out any fine particulate matter found in cities and traffic, as well as allergens, pollen, and even strong smells. This is done simply by selecting 'Purify' mode, from there the filtering process will begin and continue to monitor the air inside the cabin relative to the air outside. Other exciting technology updates include a complete suite of new Advanced Driver Assistance features for the Discovery Sport.

The updated Evoque and Discovery Sport has been scheduled to be released in South Africa in the first quarter of 2021, with pricing to be announced closer to the time.

The Range Rover Evoque Autobiography is tempting for its 50th anniversary credentials, but expect to pay R200,000 more for the privilege.
