KIA Motors South Africa have revealed pricing for the upcoming Stinger GT.

KIA has said that the car will be exclusive, and be imported in limited numbers. Its price? R859 995.

To put that into perspective, one needs to look at the Stinger GT’s direct competitors – the BMW 440i Gran Coupe M Sport, the Audi S5 Sportback Quattro, and the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic. At present, all three produce less power power than the Stinger, and are nowhere as spacious as the KIA. They are priced at R929 501 for the 440i, R936 000 for the S5, and R924 238 for the C43 – meaning that the Stinger GT is actually very competitively priced relative to its competition.

KIA is bringing the Stinger GT in a “fully loaded” specification. Stand-out features include Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen that’s preloaded with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, wireless mobile phone charging, a heads-up display (in colour), a powered tailgate, a massive sunroof, and 720W 15-speaker Harman Kardon sound system to name just a few. Naturally it comes with the very latest in active and passive safety systems.

The SA-bound KIA Stinger GT will be powered by a high-performance 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 GDI motor that produces 272kw and 510nm, making the Stinger the most powerful and fastest-accelerating production KIA ever, with a 0-100kph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 270kph. Incidentally, that motor was recently named on the authoritative Ward’s ’10 Best Engines’ list for 2018. The V6 is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with steering mounted paddle-shifters. It will also be equipped with a mechanical limited-slip differential will help to evenly distribute power through the rear wheels. Dynamic stability damping control comes standard, along with five driving modes - Personal, Eco, Sport, Comfort and Smart.

Everyone is familiar with the Stinger’s fastback silhouette, as the car made a surprise appearance at last year’s Festival of Motoring. It left visitors in awe of the sporty coupe’s muscular haunches and aggressive rear end that sees chromed quad-pipes exiting from a diffuser – further emphasizing the Stinger GT’s sporty positioning. The car will ride on 19” wheels, while Brembo brakes are standard – the fronts featuring four-piston calipers, and rear getting two-piston calipers.

KIA says customers in SA will have a choice of nine metallic colours: Hi Chroma Red, Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Ceramic Silver, Sunset Yellow, Deep Chroma Blue, Micro Blue and Panthera Metal. A five-year unlimited kilometre warranty and a five-year/90 000 km maintenance plan

The Stinger GT will not be available through the KIA dealer network. Instead the automaker has set up a bespoke direct sales experience, with interested parties being directed to a dedicated Stinger website, www.kiastinger.co.za.
