Ford Ranger XLT

On November 9, 2019

Maintenance Costs R 0.00 / Year

Insurance Premium Value R 0.00 / Month

Fuel Consumption 8 L/100km

I recently drove both the refreshed Ford Ranger Wildtrak with the new 2.0-litre biturbo engine as well as the Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.0-litre single turbo engine. Today I am going to speak about the XLT.
Firstly, one certainly cannot mistake the XLT for a Wildtrak or vice versa. The XLT features less styling cues than its sibling the Wildtrak. However this doesn't mean it lacks in the styling department. It keeps a premium look which I am really fond of. The interior of the XLT is also just as good as the exterior. Materials in the cabin are very nice and well made. The XLT makes use of leather seats which I found to be very comfortable. They offer good support and really did a good job of keeping me in place as I was driving. You also sit nice and high up which is something to enjoy whilst driving a big 4x4 bakkie.
Now moving on to the rather interesting part, the engine. This refreshed XLT features a new 2.0-litre single turbo engine which produces 132kW and 420Nm of torque. As I mentioned earlier that I drove the refreshed Wildtrak and that features a 2.0-litre biturbo engine which produces 157kW and 500Nm of torque. Now what really surprised me is that upon acceleration of the XLT, I really could not notice a difference in the lesser power of the XLT over the Wildtrak. Both cars seem to accelerate the same. Overtaking is honestly hassle free as the new engine allows for maximum torque low down in the rev range which means as soon as you put your foot down, the power is instantly available. This new 2.0-litre engine is also really good for fuel economy. It drastically reduces the fuel economy compared to the older 3.2-litre engine which was much more of a gas guzzler.
The XLT is the second highest model in the Ranger range, highest being the Wildtrak of course. This XLT then receives many many features as standard, such as reversing camera with parking sensors, cruise control, apple car play and android auto connectivity, navigation as well as many other cool features.

Going off-road in the New Ford Ranger 2.0 Single Turbo XLT 4x4

On December 27, 2019

Maintenance Costs R 0.00 / Year

Insurance Premium Value R 0.00 / Month

Fuel Consumption 8 L/100km

The heart of the Ford Ranger’s outstanding durability and strength just got an upgrade, introducing the new-generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder Bi-turbo and single turbo. They are more potent and fuel-efficient than ever before which means you can devote more time enjoying it for what it’s built to do, exploring life, discovering the roads less travelled, tackling thrillingly fun obstacles and making the utmost best of times for you and your loved ones.

This remarkable new engine is exclusively available with the refined all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, which delivers the ideal combination between automatic convenience, and manual efficiency, selecting the appropriate gear at exactly the right moment, making the ride superbly smooth and fuel-efficient. Additional innovations include the Progressive Range Select and there is the option of a full manual from the Sport mode, controlled by buttons on the gearshift lever for those who are not so fond of driving an automatic and likes to call the shots. Another great feature is Electronic Shift on the Fly 4 × 4, which allows you to switch between 4 × 2 and 4 X 4 high range while on the move.

I know some people feel like going from a 3.2 engine to a 2.0L just doesn’t make sense or that it will be a huge downgrade in power, but this is where innovation and technology steps in. The 2.0L Single-Turbo delivers strong performance lowering down the ref range, delivering 132 Kilowatts and 420 Newton meters of torque. The 10-speed automatic also improves the fuel efficiency, bringing it down to a remarkable 7.5L per 100 kilometres with the 2.0 Single-Turbo 4x4 range.

The new Ford Ranger has arrived, and they say, “Whatever it is, bring it!” so I did. I took the new Ford Ranger for a ride to challenge it a bit and to see what the fuss is about.

I’m no expert when it comes to off-roading, so I had a professional instructor with me to carefully direct me through the track. We started by reducing the tyre pressure to 1.6 as we will encounter various types of challenging terrains like sand, mud, deep water, steep inclines and declines.

Sitting in the driver seat with the adventurous 4×4 track in front of me, I adjusting my seat and mirrors specifically for the occasion and placed myself in a proper off-road driving position as instructed. After everything was explained and well understood, it was time to cover the new Ford Ranger with some dirt and to put it to the test. Now, this is where the fun and excitement truly began! Your heart starts beating, and the obstacles suddenly looks more daunting and terrifying when you are the one in front of it!

Imagine this… You’re tackling a steep uphill and when you reach the top, all you can see is the blue skies! Now, you have to obey and trust the instructor completely. Turn whenever he says you need to turn the steering and then when the vehicle is in the right position and with the hill descent control on he tells you to leave everything. This was the strangest and most frightening feeling for me, not using any of the pedals and off you go! The vehicle automatically uses the brake system, taking you downhill at a safe and steady pace.

The new Ford Ranger 4×4’s makes everything feel like a breeze with Electronic Locking Rear Differential and driver-assist features. Make light work of big challenges with 800mm Water-wading capability, up to 3500kg towing capacity, trailer sway control and a ground clearance of 230mm.

With the high level of comfort, impressive technology, entertainment and safety features you might forget that you are driving in one of the toughest vehicles out there! Some features you will find in the XLT range includes: Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Climate Control, Navigation, Cruise Control, 12V Power point plug, Cooled centre control, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Rollover Mitigation, Adaptive Load Control, Traction Control, Tow Bar, Side Steps, Tailgate with lift assistance, Rear View Camera, Front and rear parking sensors, Keyless entry and more.

So, there you have it… Bring your love for adventure, adrenaline and your challenge seeking attitude to your nearest CMH Ford dealership. The new Ford Ranger got you covered.
