Audi's refreshed A4 has been revealed.

The entire model ranges gets sharper designed bumpers, which together with the new wheel designs further accentuate the compact sedans sporty character. There is also a new S-Line competition equipment package that features a sportier front bumper with wider inlets for improved aerodynamics, a rear bumper with rectangular exhaust tips instead of round, and a narrower rear diffuser.

A new Turbo Blue paint finish debuts, and this contrasts nicely with the front bumper blade that is now in Selenite Silver. The four rings logo in the lower section of the rear doors, is available in either silver or black, depending on the exterior paint colour. The equipment package also provides customers with other racy features like - Audi Sport 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, sport suspension and LED headlights.

Inside, the S-Line competition builds on the S-Line black interior package, supplementing it with RS carbon inlays, a multi-function steering wheel and black partial leather sport seats. Alternatively, customers can also opt for S sport seats in magma red or in other colours. Audi has yet to release any info on powertrains.

Expect the updated A4 range to inherit Audi's new numerical naming structure for its engines. The refreshed A4 is expected to be introduced at the end of October, while a full facelift model is due in 2020.

FAQ

Q: What does the Audi A4 cost in South Africa?

The refreshed Audi A4 range starts from around R685,000 for the base model, with S-Line variants pushing up towards R780,000, and the top-spec S-Line Competition package likely hitting R850,000 or more depending on options.

Q: Is the Audi A4 worth buying in 2024?

The A4 remains a solid premium sedan choice with its sharp new styling and improved tech, but you're paying a premium for the four rings badge when rivals like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class offer similar performance for comparable money.

Q: What engine options are available in the new Audi A4?

Audi hasn't released full engine specs yet, but expect the usual suspects including a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing around 140kW in the base model, with higher-output variants delivering up to 180kW in S-Line trim.

Q: How does the Audi A4 compare to the BMW 3 Series?

The A4 offers more refined styling and a classier interior, but the BMW 3 Series still edges it for driving dynamics and rear-seat space, while both are closely matched on price with the 320i starting around R670,000.

Q: What's new in the 2024 Audi A4 facelift?

The refreshed A4 gets sharper bumper designs, new wheel options, the sporty S-Line Competition package with wider air intakes, plus a fresh Turbo Blue paint option and updated interior trim including RS carbon inlays.

Should You Buy It?

The best premium compact sedan under R700,000 in SA is still the BMW 320i at R670,000, but the refreshed Audi A4 at R685,000 runs it very close. If you value understated elegance over outright sportiness, the A4's sharper new look and typically excellent Audi interior make it a worthy alternative. The S-Line Competition package is tempting for enthusiasts, but at R850,000 you're getting dangerously close to proper sports sedan territory. For most buyers, the standard A4 S-Line offers the sweet spot of style, tech and performance without breaking the bank completely. It's a maybe if you're cross-shopping German rivals, but a definite yes if you're upgrading from a Toyota Camry or similar.
