It was a drizzly, rainy day and the Deep Impact Blue Ford Figo looked picture-perfect and ready for action, so I've put it to the test and got behind the wheel of the 2019 Ford Figo 1.5 Trend hatchback fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Figo has a sportier look with its restyled grille, refined lines on the body and chrome finishes adding up to a more sophisticated and stylish all-round appearance. Stepping inside the little hatch, I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it is. It has a more upmarket feel compared to the first generation Ford Figo.


It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and delivers a maximum power output of 88 kW and 150 Nm of torque. The Figo has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 5.9-litres/100km, which largely depends on how heavy you are on the throttle. It can take on those steep hills with ease, handle corners extremely well, is quite punchy on acceleration and has over-all fantastic driving dynamics and brilliant handling even on rainy days. I was stunned to see it has a sport mode and I enjoyed the PowerShift function which allows you to still be able to call the shots and change the gears manually. You can take pleasure in driving an automatic and be as relaxed as one can be in the traffic, having not to worry about clutch control, shifting gears or stalling and whenever you feel like it, you can switch it into a fun factor manual mode and be fully in control. Best of both worlds much? Without a doubt! It has the whole package and that with an affordable and sensible price especially when you need a small automatic with reasonable power output. Another big plus point on the driving experience is how amazing the aircon works, I was completely blown away by it (almost literally).


The auto drive-away locking system is found quite nifty and provides peace of mind in today’s life. Driver and passenger airbags, ABS brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and engine immobiliser comes standard on all models. The Figo has been designed to offer comfort and entertainment for every journey in all the derivatives. The entry Ambiente model and the Trend comes with Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and a Ford docking station which allows you to store, mount and charge your smart device. It is easily accessible and perfect when using GPS on your phone.



The Ford Figo is simply one of the easier choices in life offering great value for money, reliability, power, efficiency, comfort and safety all in a superbly fun and stylish package. I will definitely recommend it to first-time buyers, students, and even pensioners. It is one of the most affordable vehicles if you need an automatic with enough power to easily get you through the ups and downs of the city life.
