HARD CHARGER – Dodge Super ... Posted by Auto Advisor, November 2, 2018
DONT BET ON SEEING A DODGE DEMON IN SA ANYTIME SOON
The Dodge Demon is arguably the most badass production car on the planet. With good reason too. Off The showroom floor, it’s capable of a 9.65 second (at 224kph) quarter-mile time. To date, no supercar or hypercar has managed to match that.
It was so quick, that the National Hot Rod Association banned the Demon from competition, however, adding a rollcage and a few other bits would make it ‘legal’ again. Power came from a monstrous 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that produced a maximum of 626kw and 1045nm. The car is so powerful that only a NASCAR-rated dynamometer could hold it for testing.
Only 3,000 are being produced for the USA, with the final car expected to roll off the production line in the coming weeks. Back in mid-2017, when Dodge opened their order book, it was marked at US$ 85,000, which directly translated to Rands, equated to around R1 105 000. Since then, dealers and privateers have realised just how valuable the 2018-only Demon would be and hiked up the price to ridiculous amounts of over US$ 150,000 (over ZAR 2million).
Demand for the Demon has not abated, and collectors are paying a premium to get their hands on one. Will one ever see South African shores? Highly unlikely, unless you were fortunate to get an order in back in June 2017 at the original price. But then you would still have to convert it to right-drive. And let’s not forget the importation costs, which is likely to push the price to close to ZAR 3million.
So sadly, we are unlikely to see a Demon prowling our streets in the near future.
